The Liner Note

Hi — I’m Chi (pronounced Chee), and I love music a little too much. The kind of love where a particular line gets under your skin and keeps haunting you — like Frank Ocean’s “I’m sure we’re taller in another dimension / You say we’re small and not worth the mention” — and you have to know why: why it lands like a confession, why a record you’ve heard a hundred times still catches you off guard on the hundred-and-first listen. The Liner Note is where I sit with my favorite songs long enough to understand every line of them.

That’s the whole reason for the name, really. Liner notes were the little essays tucked inside an album sleeve — the place where someone who cared told you what you were about to hear and why it mattered. This is my version of that: one song or one record at a time, taken apart gently to see how it’s built and why it moves us. No scores out of ten, no ads, no algorithm deciding what you read next. Just close listening, set down in words.

New pieces land on the front page as I write them, and everything is gathered by artist and album. If you’d like to follow along, you can subscribe to the RSS feed — no account, no sign-up, just the writing whenever it’s ready. Thanks for being here.
